From the mountains of Shinshu to Vienna's Looshaus, discover the Japanese manufacture where precision, craftsmanship and nature become one.
22.05.2026
Grand Seiko is becoming part of the carefully curated watch portfolio at Schullin „Uhren im Looshaus“ GmbH in Vienna’s iconic Looshaus.
Founded in Japan in 1960, Grand Seiko has spent more than six decades pursuing the ideal watch. Internationally renowned for its uncompromising dedication to precision, craftsmanship and refined simplicity, every timepiece reflects the spirit of Takumi—the Japanese philosophy of mastering one's craft through decades of experience, discipline and meticulous attention to detail.
Shared values
The arrival of Grand Seiko marks an exciting new chapter for Schullin. While separated by geography and culture, Grand Seiko and Schullin share the same values: an uncompromising commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, enduring design and the belief that true luxury is found in the perfection of every detail.
Where Grand Seiko Comes to Life
Many of Grand Seiko's most celebrated timepieces are created at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri, located in Japan's Nagano Prefecture. Surrounded by the Jonen and Hotaka mountain ranges, the studio is immersed in an environment of remarkable natural beauty, where crystal-clear air, pure water and changing seasons have shaped the manufacture's philosophy for decades.
The Shinshu Watch Studio is home to every Grand Seiko Spring Drive and quartz timepiece. From movement development and component manufacturing to case finishing, dial production, assembly and final regulation, nearly every stage takes place under one roof. This exceptional level of vertical integration allows Grand Seiko to maintain complete control over every detail, ensuring a standard of quality achieved by only a handful of watch manufactures worldwide.
Takumi – The Pursuit of Mastery
At the heart of Grand Seiko lies the Japanese concept of Takumi—a philosophy that honours artisans who dedicate decades to mastering their craft.
Watchmakers, engineers and craftspeople work side by side, refining every component with extraordinary precision and care. Every polished surface, every hand-finished index and every precisely assembled movement reflects an unwavering commitment to excellence. This relentless pursuit of perfection has defined Grand Seiko since the manufacture introduced its first watch in 1960 and continues to guide every collection today.
Visitors at Looshaus Vienna will be able to discover selected models from the renowned Grand Seiko collections, including:
Inspired by Nature
Nature is more than a source of inspiration for Grand Seiko—it is an integral part of its identity.
The landscapes surrounding the Shinshu Watch Studio find expression in textured dials, subtle colour palettes and intricate finishing techniques. Snow-covered mountains, frozen forests, morning mist and shimmering lakes are transformed into surfaces that interact beautifully with changing light throughout the day. Rather than depicting nature directly, Grand Seiko captures its atmosphere through texture, light and form.
This philosophy extends beyond the dial. Razor-sharp hands, distortion-free Zaratsu-polished surfaces and perfectly balanced proportions are all designed to maximise legibility while creating a quiet elegance that defines every Grand Seiko.
The arrival of Grand Seiko marks an exciting new chapter for Schullin „Uhren im Looshaus“ and further expands the house’s world of exceptional watchmaking brands within the unique architectural setting of the Looshaus. Selected Grand Seiko timepieces will be available from June 11.
